« A
sustainable breeding in a preserved environment »
The organic trout you can find in the Babynat Vegetables and Trout jar comes from the fish farm of Plantaurel, one of
the rare farms that rear fish in fresh water into floating basins.
The Breeding surrondings
Located on the lake “Montbel” in the south of France,
the fish farm “Les Viviers Cathares” benefits from the largest
water area of the whole region "Midi-Pyrenees". Indeed there
are 600 hectares with more than 60 millions cubic meters of water resulting
from the snow melt.
The water quality of the lake Montbel is frequently controlled by an independent
laboratory. Moreover, a permanent follow-up of the physio-chemical characteristics
of the site is done: 02, temperature, nitrogen’s cycle.
The position of the lake allows the water not to be exposed to industrial
or urban pollution and to comply with the organic production’s rules.
Besides, the lake’s water is of such a good quality that the water
which feeds the lake is classified 1A which means of excellent quality.
Control
of the breeding
The trouts freely swim in large nets of 500 m3 tended in the clear
waters of the lake. In conventional fish farming, the number of fish exceeds
60 kg and reaches sometimes 100 kg/m3... but for the trouts’ well-being,
the ratio represents about 10kg per m3 in the Monbel lake.
A trout of 250g is bred for 13 month approximately, which corresponds to
a slow growth that enables the fish to have a slow and harmonious development.
The fish are fed manually, which makes it possible to adapt the ration to
the fish’s metabolism, because it takes into account all the parameters
of breeding and the detailed knowledge of the area.
Moreover, this kind of management decreases the polluting emissions which
could be caused by an indiscriminate distribution and allows an effective
and beneficial organic purification of the site.
Finally, the use of phytotherapy in the food permits to guarantee the trouts good health.
The certification
The trout that comes from “Les Viviers Cathares” is certified
by Ecocert. |
